The only way to tackle all these ills is to make the driving test and issue of license a real test. Presently, you just have to pay some money and you get the license. I know of some people who did not even take a test but obtained a license. The second way is to increase awareness about traffic rules. Granted that we are a nation of illiterates but most of us watch TV. So please can the traffic dept not educate on the rules on TV? I am sure atleast some will start following them. Presently, there is a great lack of awareness. Turning drivers fail to indicate. Sometimes, they overtake only to turn before the vehicle they are following. There is no value for life and property in this country and the only way to bring about this is to start changing people's attitudes.
Responsibility to bring the change rests with the government.

I had drawn the sea link for a mid-day competition in 1982 and glad to have lived to see it completed.

My out of the box solutions for the future.

over head cable channels for cargo transport in mumbai . ie all cargo is transported via electric cable cars (channels need to be created maybe along the express way)

ac electric bike channel to transport people from one location to another . or ac rail route along the sea.

with this we need each building to have green wall and green terraces to reduce the heat and pollution
I fully agree with you. More public transport options like Metro rail, Monorail and more AC Buses to get the car and rickshaw traveling public shift to public transport. A definite start is being made here with the Metro 1 and Monorail projects under construction, but definitely much more needs to be done.

    Hi Jal,
Fighting with these service providers can prove to be a big headache.
One advice I can give you is, to get as much done in writing as possible. That means you have a proof to show out in case you decide to file a complaint in consumer forum.
Secondly, keep things polite as possible. No point in going against them as it will make your fight harder when they retaliate.

Nice read. I am too a victim of useless Callertune services by Tata Indicom. Had a real strong fight for almost 45 mins with the officials. They activated the callertune on their own. I didnt asked for it. And when they said about how to delete it by sending an SMS, which I did, changed the song of the callertune to another one instead of deleting it. One more verbal fight is in progress...

    Hi Annagh,
Thank you for dropping by and leaving your comment. Yes, it's not always feasible to follow up and get the issue resolved. But, if people just take the steps and spread awareness it would benefit us ourselves. That was my main motive behind this post. Even a step taken by a few of us can benefit a lot more people.

A good post & equally good followup. This is the element that is sorely lacking with everyone (not that I blame them or us)because at times Rs. 5/- takes Rs. 500/- of your earnings away. However, whenever you can, one should always see a consumer issue to its logical conclusion. Keep it going mate.
One should be happy with his own actions atleast.
Lastly, don't be harsh on yourself. things would turn up nicely eventfully.

Crack you up with what? A walnut? There's nothing funny in the post.
It's not a excuse, I did want to spend time with them. In fact I called them up in the first place was that I spend an hour with them instead of having lunch alone at office. And, rather I am spending more time with people these days then I used to except for while I was working at VJTI. Things were different then.
Running away from people definitely not.
By "getting close to people" you mean having a serious relationship with any girl, then well it's too complicated to explain on my blog nor do I intend to do it here.
